Reuters & JPost differ on tunnel explosion
Published by Paul D. Boyer September 24th, 2008 in Terrorism, Palestinians, Egypt, Borders, Gaza Strip, BiasHere’s what we know according to corroborated news reports: five Palestinians died due to Egyptian security forces blowing up tunnels Palestinians use for smuggling.
Here’s where the story differs…
Reuters says Egyptian security forces blew up two tunnels beneath the Egyptian-Gaza border due to “smuggling” but with no qualifier.
The Jerusalem Post reports Egyptian security forces blew up the two tunnels as well, however, they are clear in what is meant by “smuggling,” namely, weapons no doubt with which to attack Israel with.
Why can’t Reuters report the smuggling is used for weapons? Why choose the benign term “smuggling” only?
How do you think Reuters would report the story if Israel were even allegedly doing something (but not confirmed) that intended on harming Palestinians?
